1.1 LINES AND GRAPHS
The slope (Meaning or Definition): The slope of a line is the number of units that a line rises or drops vertically for each unit of horizontal change heading in the (right direction). Note that the rise of a slope has a sign either negative(down) or positive (up) but the run is always to the right. Forms of the Equation of a Line
The general form of the equation of a line is given by Ax+By+Cy=0
The slope intercept form of the equations of a line is given by y=mx+b
The point slope form of the equation of a line is given by y-y1=m(x-x1)
The vertical form of the equation of a line is given by x= a
The horizontal form of the equation of a line is given by y = b
Strategy to Write the Equation of a Line Given The Slope and Y-intercept
1. Write down the slope intercept formula for the equation of a line y=mx+b.
2. Assign the values of the slope to m and the y- intercept to b.
3. Substitute the values into the slope intercept form of the equation of a line.
Strategy to Write the Equation of a Line Given The Slope and a Point
1. Write down the point slope form of the equation of a line y-y1=m(x-x1) .
2. Assign the values of the slope to m and the coordinate values of the point to x1 and y1.
3. Substitute the values into the slope intercept form of the equation of a line.

Definition  (Meaning) of a Function:

Definition  (Meaning) of a Domain and Range:
Graphically the domain can be described as the horizontal span of the graph of a function when it is projected on the x-axis. The domain can be thought of as the width of the graph of a function. The range on the other hand is the vertical span of the graph of a function when it is projected on the y-axis. It can be thought of as the height of a function.
